I purchased this combo deadbolt/handleset in March 2011. It was professionally installed in April. Less than 8 months later, the inside knob and outside lever are not operating properly. From the inside I can only open the door if I turn the knob to the left, turning it to the right does not move the latch in far enough. From the outside, when I press the handle down it only sometimes moves the latch in far enough to open it. This has become a defective unit. The top deadbolt piece is functioning properly. I have taken the handle apart, blew out any dust, sprayed WD-40, and reassemblied it only to have the problem continue. The problem is in the handle itself, it is not a problem with alignment to the door jam or anything like that. Quite dissapointed the unit has stopped functioning properly in such a short time. I have contacted Kwikset via email and waiting for a reply. They supposedly have a lifetime warranty on the product so hoping they will help me out.

On the positive side, I like the look of the unit and like the fact that I can easily re-key the deadbolt, this has come in handy a couple times already to allow service people entry to the house. I quickly re-keyed it to allow them entry, then re-keyed it once they were done.
