The F1 is easily one of the best knives I've ever owned/used. I qualify that statement as an owner of all the big names out there (i.e., Bark River, ESEE, RAT Cutlery, Buck knives, Ontario Knife co., Ka-Bar, SOG, Gerber, Boker, etc,). This knife is a "jack of all trades, and masters them all". It is a very attractive knife first off... Looks like something James Bond / 007 would carry and use. By the way the F1 is the standard issue survival knife currently used by the Swedish Airforce. It's a perfect size for E.D.C. (every day carry) either on hip, a breast pocket, bag, or boot. It performs very well in my uses, which are slicing cheese and charcuterie, hunting, hiking, camping, and bushcraft. The F1 is weighted perfectly behind the first finger. Its a perfect weight for E.D.C.. It is nice and thick, but because of the shape of the grind, it will baton as well as it will slice. The handle was touted as being great when wet from rain or blood, and I can say unequivocally that is no understatement at all.
I had concerns about the Zytel sheath, but it turns out to be perfect. The F1 in the Zytel sheath drapes perfectly, is secure, and has great drainage at the bottom.
The blade? Oh the blade... WOW! It's a laminated VG-10 steel, which makes it really tough, resists rust and corrosion, awesome edge retention, and this thing comes SURGICAL SHARP! I read reviews of knives all the time that say "razor sharp", and I'm dissapointed when I purchase the knife. This knife is not just "razor sharp", it's "surgical sharp".
Cons: The warranty sucks, but I can't imagine this knife failing me. I guess to get the knife to this price point, they had to limit the warranty. And with all the planning and tech involved in making this knife (google it), I cant fathom why they put the lanyard hole up so far. It is obscured by your hand, or by the clasp on the sheath. But I am being nitpicky now, I don't even use a lanyard, but YOU may!
So, if you want a workhorse knife for bushcraft/outdoors, a gentlemen's fixed blade, a cool looking knife, or looking for a Safe Queen for your knife collection? The Fallkniven F1 fits the bill with ease.
