Factory-Reconditioned Bosch PS50-2A-RT 12-Volt Max Multi-X Cutting Kit Review

This is the the first reconditioned tool I ever bought (along with a recon Bosch Bulldog at the same time - no issues with Bulldog). I felt like I was taking a risk, but I'm glad I did. My boss bought a brand new one and mine came looking and working just as good, for $80 some less. I wanted the Fein for years, but here's the deal. The Fein is a great tool, no doubt, I've used a couple of them. Its also expensive. $200+ for the most basic kit that has no case, and I like my tools in cases when I can. The blades are also very expensive. The Bosch blades aren't cheap either, but a lot easier on the wallet. More after market blades are coming available. I'm still waiting to recieve some, so I don't know if the quality will stack up.
The big knock on this tool is battery life. First, rest assured that this does not mean power, it has plenty. Run time is the issue, but I say that's no issue at all. Some say the battery only lasts less than 5 minutes in continuous use. What, are you ripping 2X4's with it? This tool does not take the place of a circular, reciprocating, jig-, or any other kind of saw that will get those jobs done. These blades are much more expensive than other saw blades so it makes no sense to do that. This tool (and the Fein and others) is sold as a sander, too. Maybe this is where the battery-life complaints arise. I haven't sanded with it and probably never will. I have probably a dozen sanders, and the little triangular sanding sheets for these tools are, you guessed it, expensive compared to other sand paper.
So why have this tool? The flush and plunge cutting wood blades are all I'm interested in. It can't be beat for, say, undercutting door jambs and casing for new hardwood or tile floors, or trimming back existing base for a new door or new wider casing. As a trim carpenter its great, faster and more precise than the old ways of doing things with hand saws and chisels. With two batteries, run time is no issue as its only used in short bursts. I'm very happy to have saved $80-90 with the reconditioned tool.

Update: Sorry to inform everyone that I've moved on from this tool. As a professional trim carpenter, I fell in love with what this tool can do, and eventually the batteries became an issue. One battery quit taking a charge at all, but before that, I kept running into the problem of needing the tool "now", but the batteries weren't ready. I went for the Fein and I'm very glad I did. I still think this tool would be great for a do-it-yourselfer who loves to buy more toys, but if you do this for a living you'll quickly realize how great these tools can be, and probably find this version inadequate in the end. Bosch has since begun selling a corded version and that would eliminate my only issue.

The alarm works very well, maybe too well. My condo requires this be posted close to the kitchen and it basically picks up EVERYTHING. So it's a bit touchy, but certainly works.

MR HEATER HERO60 60,000BTU LP Review

I bought this unit primarily for use on my outdoor deck that is attached to my home. While this heater is not specified for outdoor use (and I would never use in wet weather) I fired it up last night when the outside temperature was 27 with a 25 to 30 mph wind blowing and it provided a tremendous blast of warm air on me and my wife as we grilled some hamburgers on the deck while set at the high setting. We also have an attached porch that is not heated and I let the unit run in this 12 X 16 area with cathedral ceiling for about 5 minutes at low setting and the room temperature rose from about 30 to about 60.

This unit has the ability to be set from 30,000 to 60,000 btu's which is big plus. At 60,000 high setting it produces a jet engine like sound (not unpleasant or very loud) and at the low setting it is amazingly quiet. The blue flame is also neat to watch from a distance of about 6-10feet. As others have stated (on the 35k unit) this unit is extremely small and easy to move to where you need it and the outside casing is cool to the touch at all times. You could also use this to heat your home in an emergency if you lost power in the winter. Of course you would only run it for few minutes to warm up a room.

Streamlight 74302 Strion LED Flashlight with AC/12-Volt DC and 2-Holder, Black Review

I am very happy with this flashlight! I have long loved flashlights of all sorts. I have had every size of the D-cell Mag LitesMAGLITE S6D016 Heavy-Duty 6-D Cell Flashlight, Black and various box lights and even a pistol mounted light Tlr-3 - Streamlight. That pistol mounted light is what sold me on Streamlight.
This light is so bright, it competed very strongly against the natural sunlight and ceiling mounted fluorescents in my office!
The fact that it is rechargeable is very attractive since it will clearly save on expensive and dirty disposable replacement batteries.
A little something that wasn't so clear from the product descriptions is that this flashlight not only has three brightness levels but a strobe function. That was great fun when I figured that out!
I also really like that the button is on the tail cap.
Remember to unscrew the tail cap about half a turn when you will not be using it for a while to conserve the battery (that tip works on most flashlights, too).
Importantly, this flashlight is also very solid and well constructed. It is little, but feels the opposite of flimsy. It is an impressive little light!

I'll still use my Mag Lights when needed (if anything, they are a weapon), but this guy will go with me when I just need to light my way, not necessarily the whole forest.

I'll update if anything comes up to change my mind about this little gem.
