Product Description
CFM/CMM Thermo-Anemometer + IR Thermometer
The Extech AN100 can simultaneously display Air Flow or Air Velocity plus Ambient Temperature. Anemometers measure the speed (velocity) of moving air. Thermo-Anemometers also measure temperature by way of a thermometer located in the Anemometer sensor. The measurement units for Anemometers include: feet per minute (ft/min), meters per second (m/s), kilometers per hour (km/hr), miles per hour (mph), nautical miles per hour (knots), and Beauforts.
Additional Features
The large, easy-to-read backlit LCD includes primary and secondary displays plus numerous status indicators, including Data Hold and Min/Max. Capable of averaging up to 20 Air Flow or Air Velocity readings, the unit provides 3% velocity accuracy via low friction 2.83 D (72mm) ball bearing vane wheel on 3.9ft (120cm) cable. Easy-to-set area dimensions (cm2) are stored in the meter's internal memory for the next power on. It includes an auto power off function to conserve battery power.
How Does An Anemometer Measure Moving Air?
Anemometers measure moving air with a rotary sensor which acts very much like a weathervane and can be likened to the blades of a fan. The vane freely rotates in response to air flow, and as the air moves through the vane the blades turn in proportion to the speed of the air.
Applications
- HVAC installation, repair, diagnostics, and optimization
- Positive pressure tests in clean rooms
- Fume hood testing, installation, and verification
- Automobile engines analysis, passenger compartment tests, and aerodynamic testing
- Ionizer flow output monitoring
- Ventilation system installation, servicing, and analysis
- Environmental wind and temperature testing/analysis
- Boiler rooms
- Plant/Facilities Maintenance
What Is CFM / CMM?
Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM) or Cubic Meters per Minute (CMM) are units of measure for air volume measurements. This is a measurement of the quantity of moving air through an air duct, passageway, or enclosure. In order to determine this, the area of the duct must be measured. The area value (in ft2 or m2) is entered by the user, by pushbutton or keypad into the meter and an air velocity is determined.
Extech AN100 CFM/CMM Mini Thermo-Anemometer Review
I got this Anemometer because it was affordable compared to other units that offer the same features. It comes in a nice case and looks professional. The digital handheld portion of the unit works great and feels nice, but the "wind vane" and its attached cord has aa cheap feel and is poorly made. The cord is not coiled, so its a bit awkward. After using this unit for 2 days providing me with accurate measurements, the wind vane stopped working and my screen just displayed an "OL" instead of CFM and Temp data... I think it was the poor quality cord and construction.. If Extech offers better wind vanes with coiled/flexible cords and a BNC style connector, i'll be buying their products again in the future. Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Extech AN100 CFM/CMM Mini Thermo-Anemometer" are high quality item.
