Kohler K-2345-8-0 Memoirs Lavatory Basin with Stately Design, White Review

This sink basin developed a couple cracks behind the drain and leading up to the overflow holes within a couple years of being installed in 2004. Nine years later it's now up to a dozen hairline cracks. I suspect it has to do with the shape of the basin, which has a D-shaped profile and a fairly sharp right-angle where the drain meets the back of the basin, instead of either a consistently oval or consistently squared-off shape. Nearly all the cracks in the basin start near the back edge where the flat bottom of the basin suddenly turns straight up at a sharp right angle (the straight side of the "D"), closest to the faucet handles. Google "hairline cracks" and "Memoirs" and you'll find lots of other reviews that tell the same story.

Otherwise it's a good design and good quality materials. Very attractive and the style fits well with an old home. The fireclay stays easy to clean nine years later where cheaper sink basins stain. There's room to set things around the edges of the sink (unlike the Kohler Devonshire), and the raised lip keeps water from running onto the floor. However the cracking and crazing in the Memoirs basin is totally unacceptable. I thought I'd just replace this with the same basin, but after reading all the other reviews which lead me to believe I'll just get more cracking and crazing again within a few years, I'd rather just replace the whole sink with something totally different.
