I bought this thinking it was a "stand alone" fixture. When I received it, I found that it is really a light kit to be added to an existng ceiling fan, in place of whatever light kit is currently on the fan. Either way, I was able to make it work without having to install a ceiling fan first. I like it and it makes quite a statement in the "man cave".....yeah, the ladies like to dance! The two things I would change about it is the "blinking" feature not mentioned anywhere else and I would change the 3 clear glass lenses to colored lenses (red, blue, green maybe?) All in all, it is a fun product, easily assembled and installed.
