we are about to close on our house, the FHA did an inspection and said there is peeling paint, it all must be scraped and painted before we can close. (or an escrow for a certified painter to do it $$$$) I hired some neighbors to help scrape the windows, sofits, and garage. Maine is not a warm place in March, the first day we did a ton of scraping and a little hand painting. My wife and I were depressed thinking we couldn't finish the job, I had friends and neighbors lined up to paint for days.
On the way home I picked up this gun only the corded version, the next day we got to the point that it was time to start painting the garage (really a small barn). We were all interested in seeing how the gun would work, if it didn't we would all be using rollers and poles.
Using unthinned latex exterior paint we knocked out the same amount of area as my wife and I had done in a full day a few months ago, but only in a couple of min.
What I though would take a week for two or more people, turned into a one day job thanks to the area this gun can cover.
the buyer also brought a paint gun, so we all got to compare how they worked. the Royobi shoots a flat fan of paint, very easy to control, this allows you to get very close to the windows or anything you don't care to paint as the fan has a very defined edge. the reversible tip is awesome, if the fan gets gaps or makes a jet on one side, spin the tip around and blast the clog out, then spin the tip back around to continue painting. On the other gun, you had to unscrew the tip and use the little brush to clean it. The other gun (wagner?) was also incredibly loud almost to the point of wanting ear plugs, it also shot a circular spray pattern, one that took much more effort to keep from running the paint.
The only good things I can say about the Wagner was it lay the paint on faster than any roller, and it was easier to hold with a full paint pot.
The only downside I found to the Royobi was, with a full paint pot it was very nose heavy, standing on a ladder reaching out to the side was very tiring, I really think they intend for you to hold the front of the paint pot with your other hand. NOT something recommended on a ladder. Not filling the pot as full is an option, but that would take more time reloading.
I believe the house current powered model is more powerful than the battery model, we were painting on a day that the high temp was 34 F, with no issues or thinning
